This was a watercolor I did while I was living on Maui .this wall, painted by Wyland was on the side of a store overe there in Lahaina. The county made him get rid of it, saying it was free advertising for his gallery which happened to be in the same group of ocean side stores.
Wyland did pull it down, plank by plank, and reconstructed it elsewhere.
I thought the wall looked infinitely better than the blank brown wall it later became, even though I do not particularly like Wyland's whale paintings.
I entered this painting as a political statement, in a poster competition on Maui just after the fiasco.
It did not win, however I was close to a judge when they were talking about it. They were saying " We can't give a prize to THIS, not after what we made him do!"
So my painting got no accolades, although it did sell to a couple in San Fransisco.
