This was a great idea set up by Karen Jurick on her blog. We each sent a snapshot of ourselves to her, then she in turn sent an anonymous photo to each artist involved in the challenge. We had 3 weeks to paint it and send it in. I of course left mine till the day before they were due in, and also have a nasty cold, but I did it. Poor lady though, whoever she is, will likely not even know herself. This was in pastel pencils and is around 8" x 8". I can highly recommend this blogsite, it's informative and great fun, especially if you go in such challenges.
Enjoy.

looks good. and i totally know the felling of rushing a painting or drawing, and i hate doing it!!
Well, you would never know you waited til the last minute. Great job!
Thanks everyone, it was a fun challenge, hope to join in more in the future.

Great feel on this portrait for DSFDF.
Good work on the challenge, Rae! It's tough to do portraits of folks we've never met. great skin tones and hair!

Many thanks for your comments Liz, it's hillarious but as it turns out I do know this person I painted (Kate). She is another artist here in Austin, Texas,( and I met her on one or two occasions) but I truly did not recognize her. I guess my cold fogged the brain. What is even funnier is my other art pal (also in the same portrait challenge) remarked "Oh, she looks like Kate".. To which I answered, " yes she does a bit".. Neither of us identified her at that time though.
LOL.
Very good likeness ... to the photo. How fun that you didn't realize at first who she was. :) Good work. See you later.
