My technique for traveling with pastels is to use alcohol markers underneath the pastel layer directly onto the velor paper, this is diffused with alcohol and a small brush prior to and during the pastel overlay.
I use velour paper attached to foamcore or gatorboard which I precut before my trips to small sizes, such as 8 x 8" or up to 9 x 12".. It is light and easy to pack.
Somehow, using the alcohol in layers with the pastels, adheres the pastel to the otherwise delicate surface of the vleour.I NEVER use fixative, and to pack in my suitcase, i just wrap each piece with galssine or tissue paper.
It works for me, and I love the results.
This one is 9 x 12" and is sold.
