Lakeside Sunglow..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This pastel is done on a Uart Panel. I started it a while ago and was not happy with it. Today I did a bit of 'surgery' on the work, and feel ready to post.

I hope you like it.

The scene is one I look at daily on my walks with the puppies, we love our lakeview.

Subdued Light..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

High Key paintings do not come as easy to me as an image in the low key (darker values) range.

I thought I would try one, just to get into some 'dangerous waters' so to speak.

I think we all need to do this occasionally, and not stay in our SAFE zone all the time. Sound familiar?

I made this image up, and wanted the drama of the soft sky to be the main feature.

I used Canson Mi Teintes Touch paper, which is not my favorite, but hey, what the heck!

I felt a need for the 'pop' of red in the front grasses just to get that area to read closer to the viewer. This I did with the 'dusting' technique.
Great fun!

Fall Drama..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

FALL DRAMA is really an imaginary place.. I overlapped two very colorful photos over each other and 'played' with the image on my IPad.
This is the result. Great fun, and a nice way to just 'let go' with colors out of the ordinary.

In All It's Glory..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

In All It's Glory is a pastel on sanded Sennelier paper. This scene is another from the Sam Rayburn Lake trip I have just done. 

I warned you I would be a painting fool after this trip, i took so many photos, all paintable.

My morning and afternoon walks with the puppies were just wonderful, so much beauty!

This is another odd size, but it seemed to suit the subject so I went with it.

Lakeview 2...Watercolor... Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Another lake scene, this one was when it was in drought and the water levels were very low. Still very interesting to paint, but not good for the people of Austin..
Today, it is flooding! Go figure?
