Jounal Entry 6 (France) Watercolor.. Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This post is still a scene from France.. This time Provence area.

The watercolor medium is ideal for pen and wash studies.

I draw the scene first in pencil, then go over it with my fine point permanent  marker. the wash is the last thing I do.

Journal Entry 4 (Spain)..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This entry is from my SPAIN travels.

We made a day excursion to Cadaques which alone was wonderful! Lots of white buildings and red roofs, alleyways, cobblestone streets, lots of tourists! Ugh!

However the highlight of that day was most certainly for me, Dali's home not far from Cadaques.

This scene is part of his garden area. Possibly the most 'normal' of the scenes one sees in this house.
It was truly an amazing site to see the way Dali thought and lived.
Of course, again with the stairs.. Told you I loved drawing them.

Journal Entry 5 (France) ..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I had fun with this one, and can see I might do a larger more complete watercolor of it in the future.

The scene is France, and typical of a small rural vignette in that country.  I did not paint this from my own photo however. It is a borrowed image. The area is Frayssinet where I will be teaching in May.

The Stillman and Birn watercolor journal books are proving to be a great favorite for me, I love the surface, not too textured and great for pen and ink work.

Journal Entry 3 (Spain) Watercolor.. Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

The subject of stairs is a great favorite of mine. I just love to draw them. This journal entry is indulging that passion.

I think the photo is somewhere in Spain, so that is what I have written in the text.

The medium is watercolor, the Stillman and Birn Journal Book (Beta Series) is the substrate.

The size of this image is 5.5" x 8.5" with the book completely opened.

Simple and very quick studies are the best en plein air.. Keep JOURNALING  in mind..
