I veiled color on this after it was dry as well, to get that lemon glow.

All That Glitters, Is Not Gold...Semi-Abstract..Pastel....Texas artist..Rae Andrews

This is only my second effort trying this pastel pencil on cold press watercolor paper. It certainly keeps me interested, so maybe I will do more. I began with a bold watercolor start, then when dry, I worked my pastel pencils and some hard pastels over the top.

I saw a great demonstration by Jeannette Cuevas....http://www.jeannettecuevas.com/#home
 (who is the 'QUEEN' of this technique), a few weeks ago. 
Although my work leaves a LOT to be compared to Jeannette's lovely work, I am 'sort of' happy with this one.



This is a 14" x 20" pastel over watercolor.

BOUQUET was the demo I did yesterday for my WET INTO WET workshop.

Thank you to all the eager students who came along, it was a fun day. Although I know they were exhausted at the end of it..
I love to paint these kinds of free paintings, no planning at all, just play.

I rarely like my demos, but this one I actually did enjoy the finished result. Hope you do also.

Happy Dance...Watercolor Floral...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I am conducting a WET INTO WET watercolor workshop next week, and needed to 'brush up' (excuse the pun) on my technique.. 

WET INTO WET is fun, but has it's quirks, and the artist has to be disciplined with that brush and the amount of water used.

No pre-drawing on this image, just allowing the paint to do the work.

First Stage and last ..THRUST

I have photographed what this image started as on the left.

Using LIQUID ACRYLICS and an applicator bottle, I began with nothing in mind as to what the subject would be.

I knew I wanted a complete ABSTRACT though.
To bring the image to completion, I used WATERCOLOR and LIQUID ACRYLICS.

I hope this is legible to those reading this post..
My next image will be the completed painting.

This image (WHO'S THE BOSS) was just awarded an Honorable Mention in the online Bastrop Fine Arts Guild Competition.
