Demonstration painting..Costa Brava Spain..Watercolor.. Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This was embellished quite a bit with an additional floral accent. There were hoards of bathing beauties on the sand also, which I chose to leave out.

Plein air painting, for me, is all about adjusting the scene to suit your mood.

Yes, one can stay true to what they see, however for me, I will always add and subtract if I see a need.

Another demo from the Spain trip. This one was in the beautiful Botanical Gardens not far from our hotel. I plonked myself down on the pathway, in the shade. One has to be quick though, plein air painting is all about speed to catch that light and not be standing in the hot sun!

(Ed, this means you!!)

We scattered to the four corners of this garden area on this beautiful day, and each student came up with a different view. In fact, one could just rotate in the one spot, and get a new painting every time, just a perfect place to paint.

***My demos are by no means finished, however, I have enough information in my head from these days of plein air painting to guide me onto a bigger and better painting later.

View From Walkway, Calella Palafrugell Spain..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Another small journal entry of this beautiful area of Spain.
Calella De Palafrugell is a magical place, well worth the visit!

This was the view we all had from the terrace of the HOTEL MEDITERRANI.

This image was done completely with Winsor and Newton Watercolor Markers.

Thanks for visiting folks!
More of the Spain trip is coming including students and their works.

Costa Brava Trip..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

A scene in the town of Calella De Palafrugell
Hi All,

Well my workshop in Spain on the Costa Brava Coats was fantastic! We all arrived home exhausted, but (I think) very happy campers.

We were looked after ROYALLY by French Escapade who arranged the workshop for me and my troops.

It was a wonderfully idyllic place to paint called Calella de Palafrugell.

The Hotel Meditterrani was a perfect spot for us, the staff was great, the outlook was superb! The breakfasts were the best I have ever seen from a hotel! (Just saying..:))

It was simply DIVINE and I can highly recommend the place.

The waters of the Mediterranean were crystal clear and we all went for a swim when we could, a great way to end a day's painting.

The heat was a bit much, but we all survived. September is one of their hottest months.

Thank you to Jackie Grandchamps( the owner of French Escapade)  and Natalia (our beautiful guide) for such a well organized workshop.

The above entry was from my journal, this image was entirely done with INKTENSE blocks, my new favorites for traveling.
