Tree Sketch..Watercolor..Texas Artist ..Rae Andrews

Lately I have been exploring Tombow watercolor ink markers.
I sometimes splash watercolor down first then when that’s dry I use the markers to establish my subject. The set of markers I mostly use is the gray value set.
I look for some changes in values and pop degrees of gray to almost black into those areas.
After my subject is established I go back to my watercolor and get the depth I need to complete the piece.
Here are my steps with this image.

Journal Posts from Trip In France..Watercolor..Rae Andrews

Well I am finally posting a few images from my journals . I know it's been ages, sorry for my lapse in posts.

I taught a workshop this year in Southwest France in the Dordogne region, and then 6 weeks later, I taught another workshop in the French Alps.
Both were superb workshops, wonderful students and great fun!

here are some images I did during each workshop and some later in my studio at home. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love painting them.

This one is from the trip in May in the Dordogne area of southwest France. This was a day excursion for photo ops and painting.
We stayed at Le Vieux Couvent.. A simply wonderful venue and I am teaching there again (third time now) in July of 2019.

Another from this same trip. A marvelous small village near the convent where we stay. So many painting opportunities.

Just on the street where we stayed. I had fun with this one..

I bought a new journal, an 8" x 10" format. I quite like this larger size, when opened to use both pages, it measures 10" x 16", perfect.

Thanks for visiting...
Please stay tuned for more journal entries and news on my upcoming overseas workshops.

Costa Brava Trip..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

A scene in the town of Calella De Palafrugell
Hi All,

Well my workshop in Spain on the Costa Brava Coats was fantastic! We all arrived home exhausted, but (I think) very happy campers.

We were looked after ROYALLY by French Escapade who arranged the workshop for me and my troops.

It was a wonderfully idyllic place to paint called Calella de Palafrugell.

The Hotel Meditterrani was a perfect spot for us, the staff was great, the outlook was superb! The breakfasts were the best I have ever seen from a hotel! (Just saying..:))

It was simply DIVINE and I can highly recommend the place.

The waters of the Mediterranean were crystal clear and we all went for a swim when we could, a great way to end a day's painting.

The heat was a bit much, but we all survived. September is one of their hottest months.

Thank you to Jackie Grandchamps( the owner of French Escapade)  and Natalia (our beautiful guide) for such a well organized workshop.

The above entry was from my journal, this image was entirely done with INKTENSE blocks, my new favorites for traveling.
