Jazz Session..Abstract..Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

JAZZ SESSION  was a fun one to paint for me. I love color, and the painting just seemed to remind me of a jazz bar I frequented as a teenager in Sydney back in the late 1960's and early 1970's called Red Ned's.

This image was not planned out at all, and the music notes and part of a guitar came out of the paint.I love doing these sort of jigsaw puzzle paintings.

Caribbean Rhythm...Abstract Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I think it's healthy for an artist to paint in a series of connecting images. One image helps the next, or at least that's what I hope.
These little paintings are very challenging, nothing (for me) is by chance, it's all by DESIGN.
My initial colors are LIQUID ACRYLICS and when they dry, I try to make the shapes and colors CONNECT.
I am sure my puppies think I am nuts, when I place these on the floor with mats on them, and walk around and around the image till I know which way is 'UP'.
They watch me intently, with a curious and accepting look.. I guess by now, they know that's just 'what I do'....SIGH..

Anyway, back to this image.. It is unframed and presented in a mat ready for framing.
4.5" x 10" image size

Dance...Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics

DANCE is another little fun image in this ABSTRACT vein of late.

I think the gaity of the colors prompted my title for this one. It makes me happy, how about you?

I love the combination of orange and red with the turquoises.

Earth Patterns 2...Liquid Acrylic and Watercolor

I hope you are enjoying these excursions from my regular posts

Color and design are my pet passions as many of you already know.
I seem to bounce from more realistic imagery to the abstractions. Right now I am in the latter mode.

This one began much the same way as the previous two posts.
I decided to go with a more 'EARTHY' image, kind of rocky, kind of not.. You choose.

This one is 6" x 10" unframed.
$200 Plus S/H

Prints are available through Fine Art America:

Earth Patterns 1...Liquid Acrylic and Watercolor

Here is a second small abstract in steps.

As with my previous image, I just tossed some liquid acrylics on the paper and manipulated some marks with my applicator bottle and a brush..

Things changed as I began to use some geometry in the image.

To block out certain areas, I used acrylic white ink, watered down. This gave my eyes some respite from the bright colors.I particularly did this in the lower right corner. After it dried, I completely changed my palette of colors to a cooler spectrum.

The darks are VERY important in these abstract designs. They help ANCHOR the eye and BALANCE the image.

In some areas I took out my original whites, and enhanced those areas with glazes of lime yellow watercolor.

I always leave a lot of whites in my first throw ins if I can, that way I have the option of getting rid of them if need be as the painting progresses.

I hope you are enjoying these challenging little abstracts.
I am...:)))
