This watercolor was a fun study for me, of the trees where I walk every day with the puppies. 

I just wanted to portray a simple and yet dynamic watercolor ..I enjoyed painting this one very much.

I guess I am on a bit of a roll (yet again), now it's with dramatizing my values, and trying to keep to darker contrasts.
Sunsets are always great for this, so here is effort number 2 in this vein.

Fall Dazzle..Pastel.. Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Just finished this one. I worked on Sennelier sanded paper, a rust/tan color.
I knew I wanted the contrast of the blues against that complement.

This one is mostly made up although I did start with a photo I had of a waterfall.  In Sketch Club, I played  on the Ipad , overlapping some more water and rocks.

Painting waterscapes always relaxes me, I love to do them!

Shadow Dance, Alaska...Acrylic...Landscape...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

A few years ago I was in Alaska, wow! What gorgeous scenery. It's taken me a while to even paint something from that area, it's all just gorgeous.

Today I thought I would leave the houses alone from previous images, and just do a landscape.

Even the colors are very much softer for me. However, the scene was a mid morning light, and shadows were a lot more seductive.

Jazz Session..Abstract..Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

   JAZZ SESSION  was a fun one to paint for me. I love color, and the painting just seemed to remind me of a jazz bar I frequented as a teenager in Sydney back in the late 1960's and early 1970's called Red Ned's.

This image was not planned out at all, and the music notes and part of a guitar came out of the paint.I love doing these sort of jigsaw puzzle paintings.

Caribbean Rhythm...Abstract Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I think it's healthy for an artist to paint in a series of connecting images. One image helps the next, or at least that's what I hope.

These little paintings are very challenging, nothing (for me) is by chance, it's all by DESIGN.

My initial colors are LIQUID ACRYLICS and when they dry, I try to make the shapes and colors CONNECT.

I am sure my puppies think I am nuts, when I place these on the floor with mats on them, and walk around and around the image till I know which way is 'UP'.

They watch me intently, with a curious and accepting look.. I guess by now, they know that's just 'what I do'....SIGH..

Anyway, back to this image.. It is unframed and presented in a mat ready for framing.

Leaves...Watercolor and Liquid Acrylics

 I love to challenge myself with design.

 I am about to teach a small workshop using watercolor and liquid acrylics...(and if you know me), I had to do some 'test' paintings. This is one of those.

I don't like to pre-draw images for the most part, and instead let my paints run and fold into each other making interesting designs into which I can 'fit' a subject ...

I used Golden Liquid Acrylics with a small squirt bottle to start this one. If one leaves a lot of white and interesting negative shapes, they have a better chance of finding a subject and bring it into focus.

I worked with WATERCOLORS to get the leaf shape, and of course, NEGATIVE PAINTING.
