A Playful Balance..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This one is a demo I did in conjunction with my watercolor waterfall study I posted three posts ago, a demo on moving water, action and drama.

I did this demo the same day, in pastels on Sennelier paper.

I did not have a reference photo for this demo, and was getting the students ready for hopefully seeing a waterfall the next day, when we painted at an outdoor location.

I love to paint the action packed waterfalls, and somehow it looks better (for me) if the artist memorizes a scene and lets a little imagination play into the painting. After all the water is constantly moving, so studying it and watching how it falls will help when you paint it.

It will make the artist really concentrate on the movement of the water, storing that little personal video in the head for later use.

This pastel is on a tan colored Sennelier sanded paper, it's all pure pastel, no underpainting. I prefer my pastels to be done this way.

I hope you like this one.

Image size is 9" x 12" unframed.

A Discovered Treasure..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I decided on an action packed watercolor to paint this morning. This is 'After Maui' and not really a true scene, but conjured from a feeling I will always have with me after living on one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I hope you like this one..

Like Music Adrift..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Hi again, I am finally able to get back to a post on this blog. My hubby has been in hospital yet again, and my life is just very scattered right now, so no time for painting. Grrr!

I started this one about three days ago. It is a 19.5" x 25.5" pastel on red Sennelier sanded paper (unframed). This one was cathartic for me, with all the stress over the last few months. Just to paint again has been a real treat!

I love to paint water in any form as you may realize, and this rock pool (without the shells) was on Maui . I again 'sparked up my colors using Photoshop on my photo.
I used my own shell collection to pop in a little more interest.

I hope you like it. It was a fun image to paint.

$450 plus S/H

Sunset Aftergow..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

SUNSET AFTERGOW is inspired by Maui and all the beach walks I did there at sunset. The soft and romantic colors are wonderful at this time of evening. How I miss that part of island life.

I always fine soft high key colors difficult to portray in my art, so this was a challenge.

This image is unframed and measures 8" x 10".

                                                                $150 plus S/H

North Shore Drama..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Well here is another 'reworked' demonstration. You had better get used to my reworked demos, I have A LOT! Please forgive my indulgence.

There were parts of this especially the middle wave (see below image) and crest which I did like and wanted to keep.

It used to look like this cropped version below. I had only cropped the image in Photoshop and pondered that version for a while. In hindsight I perhaps should have gone with this interpretation.

However, I hated to waste this gorgeous sheet of Sennelier paper.

So...I decided to stay with the whole image and try and make it work.

This top original image is 19.5" x 25.5" and on a dark blue Sennelier paper.

$550 plus S/H

Fall Dazzle..Pastel.. Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Just finished this one. I worked on Sennelier sanded paper, a rust/tan color.
I knew I wanted the contrast of the blues against that complement.

This one is mostly made up although I did start with a photo I had of a waterfall.  In Sketch Club, I played  on the Ipad , overlapping some more water and rocks.

Painting waterscapes always relaxes me, I love to do them!
I hope you like this one.

Unframed this image is 13.6" x 17.6"

$400 plus S/H

Surf's Up...Watercolor...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I felt cool just painting this.. It's 90 degrees outside and climbing!

I love doing these soft focus seascapes. Watercolor is the perfect medium in which to paint these.
It's more about what you leave out, rather than what your put in the painting.

I have to exercise a great discipline in leaving the whites though, and still keep the painting action packed and natural looking.
I hope you like this one.

This image is 14" x 20" unframed
$250 plus S/H
