Side Track..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Another painting I cropped recently. I think I get a personal painting out of some of these by doing this.
This image was in my watercolor book a few years ago, and had more trees in it on the right side originally.
I also love the square format better than a rectangular one.

Garden Shambles..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Sometimes we simply don't have to tell the whole story. This vignette is an example of a 'short story' ..

The garden at Le Vieux Couvent is a rambling and at times, an unkempt garden, perfect to find  the occasional small vignette to paint.

This began as a demonstration, and the photo below shows me in the garden pointing out the area I wanted to concentrate on.

This is a watercolor on Arches paper.

                                                                  11 ' x 15' unframed

Rest In Peace..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews...SOLD!

I just finished Rest In peace.. It is a large watercolor on Arches paper.

I struggled with the mood of this painting. Maybe because I have been painting so many lighter, brighter, warmer and small watercolors, who knows.

I am pleased with it (now). I wasn't  for a while though. It was almost in the trash.

This painting has SOLD!

Fishing Boats..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This is a watercolor of boats on Arches paper.

I love to leave a lot of the whites of the paper showing, as many of you already know.

This time I made a few linear marks in a water soluble graphite pencil, as I wanted to make the boats, the 'stars of the show'.

Sun Kissed Stream..Watercolor Landscape...Texas Artist.. Rae Andrews

This small landscape was fun to paint.
I love a loose interpretation of the landscape, not so much a realistic imagery.

The scene, I think, was taken somewhere near Lake Buchanan here in Texas. I have so many photos of this area. It's so pretty at the moment too, with lake levels very full again and all the wild flowers are out!

This image is watercolor on Arches Cold Press paper.
It is 10" x 14" and unframed.

What's That? Pastel on Velour Paper..Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

The finished piece..

Here is my cut and paste of the boys in that light.. Two photos, I joined them.

What a difference the substrate makes!!
I went back to my old faithful VELOUR PAPER.. I just LOVE this paper for portraits!

I have had my babies here for over 4 years now, and this is the first joint portrait I have done of them.

And no, they are NOT redheads. However, when I took this set of photos it was sunset, and that red cast was on them, It was gorgeous light, I had to paint them as I saw them.

I used Photoshop to drop and drag the two pictures together, so I could work out composition.

I do this sort of thing a LOT in my work. I LOVE my computer..(sometimes) At times I could throw it through the window too!

But I digress.
This image is 20" x 10" on velour paper and is a pastel.

I am very happy with this one.

Tantrum...Pastel Abstract..Floral.. Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

TANTRUM began as the previous post did. I splashed my colors on with liquid acrylic onto a sanded pastel board (Richeson) and waited till it dried.

The fun then begins in trying to make sense of the marks made, and how I can make a subject evolve from them.

The overlay work is pastel.

This image is 18" x 24" unframed.
