Saint Martin De Vers..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Still having fun with these sketches.

It seems to suit my love of drawing and color.

This one is a small village in Southwest France, called Saint Martin De Vers, I visited while teaching at Le Vieux Couvent.

The houses did actually look all crooked and tumbling down, although I have embellished that’s fact in my drawings.

I used my Tombow gray markets to establish my values first and then used my watercolors ..I find this a really fun way to get these sketches started.

I embellish with permanent markers later, getting all my details and implied textures in place.

This image is 11” x 14” and is on Fabriano Hot Press paper.

Watercolor Sketch ..Town Center..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I was trying for deliberate distortion here. Just to make it more fun.still not quite there.
This is done on Arches CP paper and is 8” x 8” in size.
I made the scene up, still experimenting with my Tombow watercolor gray scale markers first to get my values in, then I use watercolor with a brush.

An Artist's Retreat, Frayssinet....Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This area is just lovely for the artist.

Lakeside Cluster..Pastel..Texas Artist.. Rae Andrews

This is really from my imagination. I had this red piece of Sennelier paper cut in the elongated shape with which I love to challenge myself.

It seems to have been so long since I have been in my gorgeous studio, I have missed it terribly!

I will try to post more often. Just a series of life changes have interrupted me for now.

Rural Cluster..Waterclor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I don't even recall when I did this one, but it was a while ago. I just splashed watercolors on the paper and worked the subject into it. I used a fine ink line in some places also as you will see.
Just a little whimsy for the day.

A Glimpse Beyond The Brambles, France..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this one today. After painting so many small journal entries, I guess I needed to 'break loose' and do a large watercolor.

This scene was a constant view on my morning walks in France. Such a pretty and scenic area to paint.

This watercolor is on Arches Cold Pressed paper.

Snow Glow...Pastel..Landscape.. Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I was just fiddling today with a treasured Kitty Wallis board I bought at the Pastel Convention Trade Show. These boards are rare now, as they ceased manufacturing them a while ago. I had never used one and really loved this surface. Shame they are not making them now.

I am not that familiar with snow, being an Aussie, we rarely see it Sydney. So I have to admit I was flying blind a little.

Still I have seen snow in the southern regions of Australia, so the impression of those colors is obviously still in my head somewhere.

I wanted to try and get that gorgeous glow one sees in the snowfields. It can be quite bright as you probably know.

This painting certainly was challenging for me, especially to work in such a high key palette of colors.
I hope you like this one..I think I do..:)) Maybe I will try more snow scenes now I have broken the ice.

This image is unframed and is 9" x 12".

Heat Of The Day.. Semi Abstract..Pastel and Acrylic... Texas Artist ...Rae Andrews

I stretched the mood a little more with this one, making my colors a little more intense. And the board was a deep rust color, so the colors I painted over this had to be a but more 'gutsy' for effect.
This is a pastel on a sanded board. I used my acrylics first, to get a REALLY bright start, then used my pastels over the top.
